Keiser (Fla.) Win First Women’s Swimming & Diving Red Banner

Columbus, Ga. – [RESULTS] Keiser (Fla.) captured its first NAIA Women’s Swimming & Diving national title after recording 785 points to earn the red banner Saturday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center.  In addition to capturing the team title the Seahawks took home a pair of top awards for the meet.

The Seahawks closed the championship out strong capturing five of the six individual national titles on the final day of competition.  Stefania Sofouli opened the finals by holding off a later charge to win the 1650 free with a time of 17:29.67.  Marine Lecomte followed that with a national title in the 200 back with a time of 1:58.87.  The Seahawks had three of the top four finishers in the 200 breast led by national champion Nikoline Biltoft-Jensen with a time of 2:17.00.  Lily Robinson was the national runner-up, while Alexandra Giourtzidou earned a fourth-place finish.  Keiser also tallied three of the top-four finishers in the 200 fly and won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.59. 

Lecomte’s 200 back title was her second individual title of the championship and helped her earn the NAIA Swimmer of the Year honors.  Lecomte also notched a runner-up finish in the 500 free.  Lindsey Wilson’s (Ky.) Maaike Broersma earned the NAIA Swim of the Meet for her 54.80 national swim in the 100 back.  St. Ambrose (Iowa) Andrea Adam repeated as the NAIA Diver of the Year.  Adam won the three-meter board, while posting a runner-up finish on one meter.  Keiser’s Head Coach Adam Epstein was voted the NAIA Coach of the Year.

SCAD-Savannah’s (Ga.) notched a runner-up finish at the championships with 469 points.  The Bees tallied a one-two finish in the 100 free as Sloan Sizemore touched the wall in 50.93 to claim her spot atop the podium.  Spencer Sheridan was a second behind for to garner national runner-up honors.  SCAD closed out the championship with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay as Sheridan, Isabella Song, Anna McGinty, and Sizemore went 3:38.54 to earn a runner-up finish.

Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) scored 410.5 points to earn a third-place finish at the championships.  The Tigers placed third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:28.54. Ashley Parry notched a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly as Julie Vega clocked a 2:19.77 to finish third in the 200 breast.

Cumberlands (Ky.) and Milligan (Tenn.) rounded out the top five with 324 and 262 points, respectively.  The Patriots had three top-eight performances on the final day led by Maria Basto’s third-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.25.  The Buffaloes were led by Gabby MacPherson and Tyler Cates fourth-place finish in the 1650 free and the 200 back.
