Five Teams Earn Individual Titles; Keiser (Fla.) Extends Lead on Day Three of 2022 NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

Columbus, Ga. – Keiser (Fla.) concluded the day with three individual national champs on the day to extend their lead in the team standings as student-athletes from four other schools reached the top of the podium on the third day of competition at the NAIA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships Friday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center. 

  • In total seven events were up for grabs on the day. 
  • The Seahawks have tallied 506 points over the first three days to hold a 187 point lead.  Keiser won the 200 medley relay to open finals with a time of 1:44.65.  Marine Lecomte took top honors in the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.97, while Alexandra Giourtzidou placed third in the event (4:33.77).  The Seahawks repeated their one, three finish in the 100 breast with Nikoline Biltoft-Jensen and Lily Robinson swimming 1:02.92 and 1:03.71, respectively.  Keiser notched national runner-up finishes in both the 100 fly and the 200 free.
  • SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) holds strong in second place with 319 points.  Spencer Sheridan claimed the top podium spot in the 200 free as she clocked a 1:52.91 to pull away from the field.  Emily Elz (200 free) and Allie Rassenfoss (100 back) both recorded sixth-place finishes for the Bees.
  • Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) tallied 303 points to be in third place.  The Tigers notched a runner-up in the 100 breast as Allison Pearson notched her second individual runner-up finish of the meet.  Olivet Nazarene had five other swimmers reach the finals of their respective events.
  • Cumberlands (Ky.) is in one spot back, in fourth, with 249 points. The Patriots recorded a pair of national runner-up finishes in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.58 and Maria Basto in the 100 back (56.00).
  • In the 100 back, Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Maaike Broersma split a 26.54 opening half to finish with a winning time of 54.80 and captured the top spot.  Broersma won the event by over a second and helped the Blue Raiders to sixth place with 152 points.
  • Sydney Schmidt recorded Sterling’s (Kan.) first individual swimming national title in school history.  Schmidt, who was the top-seed in the 100 fly, clocked a time of 55.00 to secure the win.
  • In the three-meter dive competition, St. Ambrose’s (Iowa) Andrew Adam successfully defended her national title.  Adam scored a 226.35 to separate herself from the field and win by over 20 points. 

The NAIA Championship will continue Saturday, March 5, with the final day of competition. Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. EST and finals will start at 5 p.m. EST.
