Keiser (Fla.) Leads After Day 1 of NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

Columbus, Ga. – The 2022 NAIA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships got underway with the 800 free relay as the lone event on the docket Wednesday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center. 

  • Keiser (Fla.) won the event, touching the wall in 7:32.49 to take the top spot in the team standings. Karina Braathen, Emma Sofie Augustsson, Mari Alvasker, and Stegania Sofouli teamed up to capture the first title of the championships.
  • SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) finished as the runner-up touching the wall in 7:34.24. The Bees held the lead early in the race and were neck-and-neck with the Seahawks through the final 100 yards to earn 34 points.
  • Cumberlands (Ky.) utilized the fastest split of the day with their anchor leg, Maria Basto, splitting a 1:51.87 to help the Patriots place third in the standings.
  • Milligan (Tenn.) edged out Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) for fourth place as the Buffs clocked a 7:41.84, while ONU finished with a time of 7:43.43. 
  • Midland (Neb.), Indiana Wesleyan, and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) round out the top eight finishers in the relay.

The NAIA Championship will continue Thursday, March 3, with the second day of competition. Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. EST and finals will start at 5 p.m. EST.
