Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) Wins First Pool Play Match in Straight Sets
SIOUX CITY, Iowa [BOX SCORE] - The Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) Cougars defeated The Master's (Calif.) Mustangs 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-21) in pool play at the 2024 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship.
The Master's team struggled to keep up with Mount Vernon Nazarene's strong offensive performance throughout the game as MVNU hit over 400 in two sets while holding the Mustangs under an attack percentage of 200 in two of three sets.
Libby Evanshine led the way for the Cougars with 15 kills, while Reagan Nuss contributed 32 assists as she led the team's offense.
Ruby Duncan stood out for TMU with 15 kills, but it was not enough to overcome Mount Vernon Nazarene.
This is the first win for the Cougars in pool play at the national championship.
With the loss, The Master's is eliminated from championship play. Mount Vernon Nazarene will play one more pool play match against Concordia (Neb.) on Friday. The winner of that match will advance out of pool play.
