GULF SHORE, Ala. – [SCHEDULE | RESULTS] The battle for the red banner at the 2022 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship concluded with British Columbia taking home the title from Gulf Shores, Ala.

Half Marathon – Taylor Ward, Life (Ga.), 1:23.42

Long jump – Myesha Hall, Truett-McConell (Ga.), 6.15 (20-2.25)

High Jump – Erica Xayarath, Indiana Tech, 1.73 (5-8)

Discus – Madison Sutton, Benedictine (Kan.), 48.29 (158-5)

4x800m – British Columbia, 8:57.70

5k – Glynis Sim, British Columbia, 16:50.95

3k steeplechase – Jenna Melanson, British Columbia, 10:16.87

4x100m relay – Indiana Tech, 45.55

1,500m – Sydney Little Light, Rocky Mountain (Mont.), 4:25.90

100m hurdles – Joy Abu, William Carey (Miss.), 13.48

400m hurdles – Joy Abu, William Carey (Miss.), 59.34

400m – Praise Idamadud, Cumberland (Tenn.), 53.04

800m – Lisa Voyles, Indiana Tech, 2:08.49

100m – Raheema Westfall, Wayland Baptist (Texas), 11.43

200m – Raheema Westfall, Wayland Baptist (Texas), 22.98 [NEW RECORD]

4x400m relay – Indiana Tech, 3:42.16

 

  • Taylor Ward of Life (Ga.) won the half marathon with a time of 1:23.42. Macy Weaver of Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) followed only 1.67 seconds behind Ward.
  • Myesha Hall of Truett McConnell (Ga.) won the high jump title with a mark of 6.15 on her third attempt. This is the first individual title for Truett McConnell.
  • Jenna Melanson of British Columbia captured the title in the 3k steeplechase with a time of 10:16.87. Melanson finished 5.92 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Becca Richtman of Montana Tech.
  • Erica Xayarath of Indiana Tech led the way in the high jump with a mark of 1.73 (5-8). Five different athletes following Xayarath hit .03 below Xayarath as the ties were broken by number of scratches.
  •  Madison Sutton of Benedictine (Kan.) won the discus throw with a mark of 48.29 (158-5). This is the first overall individual title for the Ravens.
  • British Columbia with a team of Amelia Pfohl, Abby Ylipahkala, Rachel Mortimer and Holly MacGilivray with a time of 8:57.70 in the 4x800m. The Thunderbirds have won the 4x8 title three times. The last two titles were in 2018 & 2019.
  • Glynis Sim of British Columbia won the 5,000m with a time of 16:50.95. Sim won by just under a minute. This is the second time someone from UBC has won a 5k. Previously it was won in 2015.
  • Indiana Tech with a team of Sha’londa Terry, Derica Gibson, Taylor Kyle, Soyinne Grenyion claimed the 4x100m relay title with a time of 45.55. The last time that Indiana Tech won in the 4x1 was in 2017. This is the fifth 4x1 title that Indiana Tech has won.
  • Sydney Little Light of Rocky Mountain (Mont.) finished the 3k steeplechase with a time of 4:25.90 for the title. This is the first individual title for Rocky Mountain in the 3k steeplechase.
  • Joy Abu of William Carey (Miss.) finished with a time of 13.48 in the 100m hurdles. This is the first 100m hurdles title for William Carey. Abu also claimed an individual title in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.34.
  • Praise Idamadud of Cumberland (Tenn.) won the 400m title with a time of 53.04. This is the Phoenix first title in the 400m.
  • Raheema Westfall of Wayland Baptist (Texas) set a new meet record in the 200m with a time of 22.98. The previous record was set in 1994 at 23.10. Westfall also won the 100m with a time of 11.43.
  • Lisa Voyles of Indiana Tech captured the title in the 800m with a time of 2:08.49.
  • Indiana Tech with a team of Olaide Olapade, Xuxa Peart, Antonishka Deveaux and Destinee McGrady won the 4x400m relay title with a time of 3:42.16. This is the third 4x4 title that Indiana Tech has won. The last two were in 2013 and 2014.
  • British Columbia captured an early team lead on day two and kept building that lead up to 138 points to take home the red banner after earning points in 14 events.
