2022 NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championship Semifinal Round Recap

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE] Georgia Gwinnett maintained its unblemished record in 2022 while Keiser (Fla.) dropped just one court as the two NAIA powerhouses advanced to the title match for the fourth consecutive season. Keiser defeated LSU Alexandria (La.) 4-1, which ended a magical run for the Generals, while the Grizzlies continued their shutout streak in the 2022 championship.

Game Notes & Highlights

  • No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett continued its romp through the championship field, this time sweeping past upstart No. 5 Montreat (N.C.) to punch its 6th consecutive title match ticket.
  • Georgia Gwinnett have been in the last seven-consecutive championship matches and have won six. Its lone loss came at the hands of former member Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) in 2015.
  • The Grizzlies jumped ahead 1-0 behind a pair of convincing doubles results, and quickly doubled its lead to 2-0.
  • With tough battles at the top two singles slots, Montreat's comeback bid was shut down before it could begin, as GGC picked up wins at three and five to clinch the match. Alejandra Ferrer Rodriguez topped Vaishnavi Venkatesh by a 6-1, 7-5 score before Stephanie Fernandez ended the contest at the fifth flight with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nicole Bueno.
  • No. 2 Kesier, searching for its 4th consecutive matchup with Georgia Gwinnett in the finals, defeated previously undefeated No. 3 LSU Alexandria (La.).
  • The Seahawks took the doubles point, courtesy of Kanon Sorakubo and Vanja Vidanovic taking the 7-5 win over Candela Bonivardi and Patricia Martinez Molina.
  • Olivia Scattini's 6-1, 6-2 win at the fourth flight tied the match at one apiece, but Keiser quickly retaliated with three straight victories, including the clinching win at three when Vanja Vidanovic defeated Maria Alvarez, 6-1, 6-3.
  • Keiser is looking for its second national title in team history. Its lone win came in 2003 (still knows as Northwood) when it defeated Auburn Montgomery for the red banner.
