2019 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll – Postseason Poll (December 11, 2019)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Keiser (Fla.) can add NAIA Women’s Soccer National Champion to its list of accolades. The team from West Palm Beach, Fla., ended the 2019 campaign as the No. 1-ranked team in the nation in the postseason edition of the Top 25. Marian (Ind.) made a large jump to No. 2 after completing its historic season as the national championship runners-up. William Carey (Miss.), Southeastern (Fla.) and Northwestern Ohio rounded-out the top five.

Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999)

  • Keiser outscored its opponents 10-2 at the final site as goalkeeper Nina Haeberlin recorded her 24th career shutout in the national championship match. This final shutout made the senior the all-time leader in shutouts for the Seahawks.
  • Marian (Ind.) finished at No. 2 with a remarkable run as the No. 12-seed all the way into the championship match. The Knights went 2-1-1 at the final site, including advancing on penalty kicks against overall top-seeded William Carey (Miss.) in the semifinal.
  • William Carey’s bid to go back-to-back as national champion fell just short in the semifinal. Itzayanna Gracia posted the game-tying goal in the 58th minute of play, a goal which would force overtime. The tie stopped a 14-match winning streak.
  • An historic career came to an end in the semifinals as Southeastern’s season came to a close with a 2-1 loss to Keiser. Uchenna Kanu ended her prolific career as the all-time leader in career points (366) and goals (157).
  • Northwestern Ohio scored in the 90th minute against Southeastern in the quarterfinal round to tie it, but that was the last goal of the season for the Racers as they finished just shy of a semifinal round appearance. Jeweleen Reuille scored with 24 seconds remaining in play to force extra time as the Racers finished at No. 5 in the postseason edition.
  • Spring Arbor continues to hold the longest active Top 25 Poll streak, moving to 108 consecutive appearances in the poll. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) holds the national record since 1999 with 203 consecutive appearances, which was stopped on Oct. 24, 2017. Keiser (Fla.) is right behind Spring Arbor, extending its streak to 106 weeks.
  • Lindsey Wilson own the most No. 1 rankings since 1999 with 58, followed by former member Azusa Pacific (Calif.) with 32. Spring Arbor is in third with 23 followed closely by Westmont (Calif.) and former member Concordia (Ore.) with 19 apiece.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appears on.
  • Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes.”
