KANSAS CITY, Mo. – National champion Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) head coach Drew Burwash, has been named the 2014 Select Sport America-NAIA Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year, the NAIA announced Friday at the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA) National Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.

This is the third time Burwash has earned the award while at Lindsey Wilson (2004, 2006).

In 16 national championship appearances, the Blue Raiders have now racked up four team titles – their first since 2012 – and Burwash has guided the team to each of the programs’ crowns. With the victory, the team owns a 37-13-2 overall mark in the national championship. For his career, Burwash has a 235-36-18 record.

Lindsey Wilson finished 2014 with an 18-3-3 record, capping off its magical season with a 3-0 blanking over Northwestern Ohio at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala. on Dec. 6. Offense was bountiful for the Blue Raiders, as they finished 2014 with 4.25 goals per match, second in the NAIA behind Fisher (Mass.) (4.28). At the Final Site, the top-ranked club scored 3.4 goals per contest, which led the three schools tied for second by almost a full goal (2.5).

Lindsey Wilson ended the season winning 10 matches in-a-row en route to the title. The Blue Raiders earned their automatic bid to the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship by clinching the Mid-South Conference Tournament title with a runaway victory over Cumberland (Tenn.), 5-1.

Individually, five players from the national champions’ squad was named to the named to the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship All-Tournament Team – Bettina Brulhart, Elizabet Madjarac, Carola Schneider, Ayaki Shinada and Anna Vig. Vig also was named the Select Sport America-NAIA Championship Most Valuable Player, while Shinada was tabbed the Select Sport America-NAIA Championship Outstanding Offensive Player.

Lindsey Wilson also landed five players on the All-America list, including Madjarac, Amanda Kander and Brulhart on the first team. Schneider was named to the second team, and Karin Bernet to the third.
