Bethel (Tenn.) Advances to Semifinals for First Time
SIOUX CITY, Iowa [BOX SCORE] - In a thrilling quarterfinal matchup at the 2025 NAIA Women's Basketball Championship, Bethel (Tenn.) edged past Southern Oregon with a final score of 74-70. The game, held in the Tyson Events Center, saw Bethel overcome a challenging start to secure their place in the semifinals.
Southern Oregon began the game strongly, outscoring Bethel 23-14 in the first quarter. They maintained their lead into halftime, heading into the break with a 40-29 advantage. However, Bethel mounted a significant comeback in the second half, particularly in the third quarter, where they outscored Southern Oregon 26-16, narrowing the gap and setting up a tightly contested final period.
Key performances for Bethel included Micah Hart, who led all scorers with 22 points, and Madison Hart, who contributed a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kalynn Howard was also instrumental, hitting four three-pointers to finish with 14 points.
Southern Oregon's Meghan McIntyre made a valiant effort, scoring 15 points and dishing out six assists. Emma Schmerbach added 11 points for Southern Oregon, but the team struggled with three-point shooting, converting only 24% of their attempts.
Bethel's superior free-throw shooting proved decisive in the end, as they converted 76% of their attempts from the line, compared to Southern Oregon's 33.3%. Despite Southern Oregon's strong start, Bethel's resilience and strategic adjustments in the second half secured their victory and advanced the Wildcats to the semifinals for the first time.
Bethel will play in the semifinal against the winner of Dordt (Iowa) vs Marian (Ind.) on Monday, March 24.
