Briar Cliff (Iowa) Advances to Quarterfinals
SIOUX CITY, Iowa- [BOX SCORE]- In a competitive NAIA Women's Basketball Championship Round of 16 matchup, Briar Cliff (Iowa) secured a decisive 80-64 victory over Mid-America Christian (Okla.).
The game started with BCU taking an early lead, ending the first quarter with a 24-12 advantage. They maintained their momentum throughout the first half, heading into the break with a 41-25 lead. MACU attempted a comeback in the second half, scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to bridge the gap established by Briar Cliff.
The Chargers victory was driven by standout performances, including Mallie McNair's impressive 27 points on 10-20 shooting, including 4-6 from beyond the arc. Taylor Sodeman also contributed significantly with 16 points, hitting 6 of her 11 attempts. The team excelled in three-point shooting, converting 54.5% of their attempts, compared to Mid-America Christian's 22.7%.
On the other hand, Mid-America Christian struggled with shooting efficiency, managing only 35.9% from the field. Shy Christopher was a bright spot for the team, scoring 21 points and securing seven rebounds. Alexis Borgstadt and Hailey Tunnell added 12 and 13 points, respectively.
Briar Cliff's cohesive effort was evident in their 13 assists, showcasing effective ball movement and teamwork. Despite committing 10 turnovers, they maintained control for the majority of the game.
The Chargers advance to the quarterfinals for the 11th time in program history. The team will play on Saturday, March 22, against Governors State (Ill.).
