• All 20 games were played on Day One of the Softball National Championship Opening Round. Overall, there were four run-ruled contests and two affairs that went into extra innings.
• The No. 1 seeds went 8-2 today, including two-time defending national champion Auburn Montgomery (Ala.). The Warhawks run-ruled No. 4-seed Lourdes (Ohio) by a 10-0 count in five innings. The top seeds to lose were Campbellsville (Ky.) and William Carey (Miss.).
• 2015 NAIA Pitcher of the Year Nicole Nonnemacher (pictured) started off Saint Xavier’s (Ill.) opening round play with a bang as she tossed the second no-hitter in the history of the opening round (since 2013). She established a new opening round record with 19 strikeouts as the top-seeded Cougars defeated fourth-seeded Milligan (Tenn.), 2-0, in the Georgia Gwinnett Bracket. Nonnemacher and Auburn Montgomery's Cassie Daniels previously held the mark at 17. Nonnemacher's no-hitter is her seventh of the season and 14th all-time.
• In the Reinhardt (Ga.) Bracket, fourth-seeded Webber International (Fla.) got past top seed William Carey by a 4-1 count. That loss by William Carey was the first in the school’s opening round history as the Crusaders entered with a 7-0 mark. No. 3 seed Huntington (Ind.) knocked off host and No. 2 Reinhardt, 2-1, in walk-off fashion. A solo homer by Emily O’Leary in the bottom of the eighth inning was the difference maker.
• Opening round newcomer Great Falls (Mont.) was impressive in its debut with a 4-1 triumph over top-seeded Campbellsville in the Morningside (Iowa) Bracket. Argonaut pitcher Keeley Van Blaricom allowed just four hits in the complete-game victory in the circle.
• After an 8-2 mark on Day One, the opening round hosts have recorded an all-time combined record of 84-33. The host programs to drop a contest today were No. 2 Davenport (Mich.) and No. 2 Reinhardt.
• Since the opening round format began in 2013, the top seed has been the champion in 21-of-30 events. The No. 2 seed has won seven opening rounds, while No. 3 College of Idaho (in 2014) and No. 3 Dickinson State (in 2015) are the only No. 3 seeds to win their events. There has not been a No. 4 seed to win the opening round.
• The 10 Opening Round champions will meet up at the NAIA Softball World Series in Sioux City, Iowa for a seven day, double-elimination event starting on May 27. There are four games during each of the first three days (Sunday is an off day); three games on June 1; two games on June 2; World Series championship final on June 3 (if necessary game to follow).
• The 10-team World Series bracket will be officially announced Wednesday, May 18 after the Opening Rounds have been completed (late in the day).
