SIOUX CITY, Iowa – (Box Score) Chelsea Showers delivered a pair of RBI doubles as No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) survived 3-0 over No. 2 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) in the first championship game at the 35th Annual NAIA Softball World Series, presented by Security National Bank and Morningside College. Both programs meet up in the “if necessary” game tonight at 7:30 p.m. CDT.

Lindsey Wilson is searching for it’s first-ever championship, playing in its inaugural title game. The defending national champions, Auburn Montgomery is seeking to become the third NAIA program to win consecutive titles and first since Oklahoma City in 2000-02.

Showers continued an early scoring trend for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders have now plated 16 runs in the first two innings in their last four World Series games – all wins. Tonight was no different.

Showers laced an RBI-double in the first inning to send home Jenna Firestein. The two players combined to repeat their efforts in the fifth inning. After Firestein drew her second walk of the game, she stole second and advanced to third on an error. Showers immediately drove a pitch to the fence to drive in Firestein.

Travatia Bowden homered in the sixth inning to hand Lindsey Wilson a 3-0 lead.

Jordan Hood and Cassie Jones were locked in a pitching battle, but tonight, Hood was just a bit better. The senior from Locust Fork, Ala., improved to 5-0 in the World Series and 21-2 on the year allowing just two singles and a double in the seven-inning effort. She struck out three and walked one. At one point, Hood retired 14-straight Warhawks.

Jones fell to 34-5 on the year. She allowed three runs on four hits while walking three. She fanned eight batters to push her season strikeout total to 401.

The double-elimination event is being played out at the Elizabeth & Irving Jensen Softball Complex. The City of Sioux City and Morningside College serve as official hosts for the first time. For more information on the 2015 NAIA Softball World Series, click here.
