2015 NAIA Softball Coaches? Top 25 Poll ? April 21

By: Chad Waller, Director of Communications & Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With 591 total points and 21 first-place votes, Oklahoma City is the unanimous No. 1 selection in the sixth regular-season edition of the 2015 NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Stars are on the top of the poll for the sixth-straight week and is the unanimous pick for the fourth-consecutive time.

Despite a setback on April 18 against then-No. 20 Science & Arts (Okla.), Oklahoma City continues its dominance in the ranking. The Stars lead the NAIA in wins (44) and winning percentage (.957) and rank No. 1 in home runs per game (1.7), total runs scored (427) and total RBIs (393). A pair of wins Tuesday against Mid-America Christian (Okla.) would all but ensure Oklahoma City’s 16th overall Sooner Athletic Conference championship and first since 2011.

For the fifth-straight week, Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) checks in at the No. 2 slot with 560 total points. Third-ranked Concordia (Calif.) gathered 558 points. No. 4 LSU Alexandria (La.) posted 539 total points and No. 5 Saint Xavier (Ill.) stands with 510 points.

No. 14 Science & Arts (Okla.) is the biggest mover up this week. Thanks to a win over No. 1 Oklahoma City, 3-0, on April 18 which snapped the Stars’ 20-game winning streak, the Drovers boast their best ranking in 2015.

On the flip side, No. 24 Davenport (Mich.) suffers the worst fall, dropping down six spots.

No. 17 Southeastern (Fla.) and No. 25 Madonna (Mich.) enter the ranking for the first time all year. For Southeastern, this marks the first time in program history the Fire have been nationally ranked. Southeastern improved to 35-10 overall with a pair of doubleheader sweeps over then-No. 16 Thomas (Fla.) on April 17 and then-No. 13 USC Beaufort (S.C.) on April 18. Overall, the Fire have won 12-out-of-their-last-13 contests.

Madonna is recognized in the Top 25 for the first time since March 29, 2011 (No. 20).
Marian (Ind.) (No. 24) and Grand View (Iowa) (No. 25) both drop out this week.

Eleven of 21 conferences and Unaffiliated Groups are represented this week, led by five leagues with three members each. A trio of other conferences land two teams in the Top 25.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences /independent /unaffiliated groupings. The seventh regular-season Top 25 will be announced on April 28.
