COLUMBUS, Ga. – (Box Score) Junior Amanda Trampe went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI for No. 7 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) as the Blue Raiders posted a 7-0 victory over No. 4 St. Gregory’s (Okla.), in an elimination game at the 2014 NAIA World Series at the South Commons Softball Complex on Monday.

The Blue Raiders (50-10), which lead the NAIA in home runs (89), struck three round-trippers tin the victory. Until the sixth inning 2-RBI double by junior Andrea Whelan, all prior Blue Raiders runs scored in the 2014 World Series were scored via home runs (5). Lindsey Wilson had 13 hits, the most of a team to date in this World Series. Oklahoma City collected 12 hits in a 15-2 victory over Simpson in second day action.

Junior Andrea Whelan added three hits, scored two runs with two RBI. As a team, the Blue Raiders notched at least two hits in four innings.

In the circle, junior Jordan Hood posted her 12th shutout and earned her second blanking of the World Series to improve to 26-3 overall. Hood walked one batter and had five strikeouts. She has now tossed 20 innings of shutout ball in the World Series – she allowed three runs in the fifth inning before recording an out in the loss to Auburn Montgomery on Saturday.

“The first two games I felt we were out of our approaches and seemed to respond to it well, the day off (Sunday) kind of helped.” said Lindsey Wilson head coach David Dews. “We just refocused, tried to put together good at-bats and good approaches and we did that today.”

St. Gregory’s had seven hits, two each by junior Randi Yousey and freshman Brooklyn Sparks. Yousey, an Edmond, Okla., native ended the season with 102 base hits, which will go in the NAIA record book as the seventh-highest single-season total.

The Cavaliers conclude their season with a 52-12 record overall.
 
In the bottom of the first, Whelan doubled down the left field line and scored on Trampe’s team-leading 17th home run of the season. A solo home run by junior Kristina
Krupinski in the third inning, her 15th, made it a 3-0 game.

In the fifth inning after one out, the Cavaliers posted three-consecutive singles to load the bases. Hood managed to strike out the next two batters to end the inning. The Cavaliers stranded nine runners on base.

The Blue Raiders advance in the World Series of the double-elimination event and will meet either No. 8 Oklahoma City or No. 5 Reinhardt (Ga.) in an elimination game Tuesday at 1 p.m. EDT.

The 34th Annual Softball World Series is a 10-team, double-elimination event hosted by the Columbus Sports Council.
