Cal State San Marcos advances to round of four

GULF SHORES, Ala. - (Updated schedule & box score) Junior pitcher Courtney Allen tossed a complete-game four hit shutout as Cal State San Marcos posted a 4-0 victory over Central Baptist (Ark.) in an elimination game Monday night at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship.

Allen struck out 11 batters, including four in the final two innings after a 2 hour and 25 minute rain delay interrupted play after the conclusion midway through the sixth inning.

Cal State San Marcos (55-5) had ten hits, two each by senior first baseman Alyssa Dronenburg and senior left fielder Alicia Ingram. Dronenburg produced the game-winning hit via a RBI single in the third inning.

Senior third baseman Erica Gunter had two hits for Central Baptist, who conclude their season at 53-8 overall.

The Mustangs had several opportunities throughout the night, however stranded nine runners total, including the bases loaded in the second inning. Cal State San Marcos left 10 on base and left the bases loaded in the third inning.

Leading 1-0, the Cougars added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by freshman catcher Brittany Grier. The Cougars broke the game open after the rain delay in the top of the seventh inning, pushing across two runs. Senior third baseman Theresa Houle produced an RBI single and later scored an unearned run for the final margin.

Cal State San Marcos will meet Oklahoma City, a 4-1 winner over Auburn Montgomery (Ala.), in an elimination game Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. CDT.
