Pool F Recap: Day Two (Friday)

GULF SHORES, Ala. - (WCU vs. CMU Box Score) (UHV vs. IWU Box Score) William Carey (Miss.) and Houston-Victoria (Texas) were victorious on day two of pool play at the NAIA Softball National Championship. The event is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex for the second-straight year.

William Carey blanked Central Methodist (Mo.), 4-0, and Houston-Victoria rallied past Indiana Wesleyan, 6-4, in eight innings.

The Jaguars scored in each of the final four innings after spotting Indiana Wesleyan a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Trailing 4-2 entering the sixth, the Jaguars pushed across one in the sixth on Porsha Ramos' sac fly to pull within one, and then trailed by one with two outs in the seventh and a runner at second. Kayla Lindemann dropped down a bunt single, and an errant throw brought home Ariel Gomez to extend the game.

After Indiana Wesleyan stranded a pair in the bottom of the seventh, Houston-Victoria scored twice with four hits in the eighth. Kristina Droz doubled, and Kori Kocian tripled to start the inning, and then Gomez singled home the final run of the ball game.

In William Carey's win, Alyssa Boutwell held the Central Methodist bats in check with seven innings of four-hit shutout ball. She struck out eight and walked one. The Crusader bats produced four runs on twelve hits, led by a 3-for-4 effort from Hannah Cook-Kelley and two RBI from Boutwell.

The Crusaders scored the game's first run on a Lindsey Webb RBI-single in the fourth and then the team tacked on three more in the seventh, with Boutwell producing a two-run single.

In Pool F on Saturday, Central Methodist and Indiana Wesleyan will battle at 10 a.m. CDT and William Carey will face Houston-Victoria at 3 p.m.
