Oregon Tech Defeats Northwood (Texas), 1-0 on Day 1

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Oregon Tech (36-12) shut out Northwood (Texas) (37-14), 1-0 in pool-play action on day one of the NAIA Softball National Championship. The event is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

The game’s lone run was scored in the first inning. Oregon Tech lead-off batter Shauna Collins reached base on a walk. She came into score after a balk by Northwood pitcher Larisa Garcia. Garcia was pulled after just two batters.

 

Oregon Tech pitcher Jackie Imhof tossed 7.0 innings of shutout ball. She recorded seven strikeouts and allowed four hits. She improved to 20-5 on the season.

 

In relief of Garcia, Northwood hurler Taylor Jones pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up just three hits and struck out three batters.

 

The game’s leading hitter was Northwood’s Tancy Matthews as she went 2-for-3.

 

Pool-play continues tomorrow as Oregon Tech faces Midland (Neb.) at 3 p.m. CDT and Northwood takes on Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) at 10 a.m.
