Bethel (Ind.) Wins 10-0 against Morningside (Iowa) in Day One

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Bethel (Ind.) (37-7) rocked Morningside (Iowa) (45-10) 10-0 in five innings on day one of the NAIA Softball National Championship. The event is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
Behind the strength of four extra-base hits and the arms of Giana Zimmerman and Kendra Zache, Bethel opened up pool play with a decisive win. Alyssa Zimmerman got the scoring started with a two-run double in the first inning. She finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored.
In the second inning, the Pilots added four more runs. The big play came when Kaitlyn Dubois knocked out her fifth home run of the season, which scored three runners. The final four runs came in the fourth inning.
After Giana Zimmerman went 4.0 innings, Zache pitched a scoreless fifth inning. Zimmerman finished with four strikeouts and allowed just two hits. The junior moved to 18-3 on the season.
Morningside pitcher Emma Remy was hit with the loss, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on seven hits. She struck out three and walked five. She fell to 21-3 on the season.
Bethel continues pool-play action with a Friday game against Asbury (Ky.) at 2 p.m. CDT. Morningside takes on Cal State San Marcos at 9 a.m. on Friday.
