WYOMING, Mich. - After belting six homeruns in yesterday's (April 7) sweep of Cornerstone (Mich.), the long balls continued today (April 8) right from the start as Davenport (Mich.) opened game one with three consecutive deep shots to lead them to 5-1 and 9-1 wins over visiting Siena Heights (Mich.). Davenport, who also turned a rare triple play in game one, is now 23-12 on the year.

Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.)Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.) and Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) went back to back to back to start the bottom of the first in game one and DU was off and running as they added six more homeruns today to their six from yesterday to improve to 10-0 in conference play.

After the three solo shots in the first gave the Lady Panthers a 3-0 lead on the visiting Saints, whom DU swept on Tuesday, the bats quieted down significantly for the remainder of the game with the home team picking up runs in the third and the fifth in the 7-inning win.

DU made school history on defense in the fourth inning when they registered the first ever triple play.  With runners on second and third for the Saints, DU forced a fly-out to right fielder Ashlee Olsen who then threw the runner out tagging from third base.  After a short delay, the team checked the runner on second to make sure she had waited but the umpire ruled she did not and they got the third and final out of the inning.

Kelsey Egyhazi posted three hits in the win as the 1-5 hitters accounted for all five RBI, five hits and a pair of walks.  Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.), who threw a no-hitter on Tuesday against the Saints, finished with a complete game while only allowing seven hits and one earned run for her 13th win of the year.

Game two started slow for Davenport, but the bats came alive in the third inning with six runs and DU put it out of reach with a pair in the fourth to claim the 9-1 mercy win in five innings.

Junior Katie Cornman (Eastpointe, Mich.) highlighted the inning with a three-run shot to left-field and after a walk to Debra Burton (Cassopolis, Mich.)Liz Veltman (Grand Ledge, Mich.) belted a 2-run shot to culminate the six run barage.  The long ball off the bat of Cirina Jones (Middleton, Mich.) in the fourth inning that scored Brianna Carpenter(Irvine, Calif.) gave DU all the runs they would need to mercy the Saints 9-1.

Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) got the win as the junior went all five innings while allowing seven hits and zero earned runs.  The victory was her fifth of the season to go along with only one loss.

Davenport has now won 15 games in a row and will host the Wolves of UM-Dearborn at 1:00pm on Saturday at Kelloggsville HS.  The game will be aired live on the DAN and live stats will also be provided.
