WALESKA, Ga. - Behind a perfect game from Kelsey Floyd, Reinhardt College (Ga.) earned a doubleheader split on Friday with No. 21 Martin Methodist College (Tenn.). Reinhardt lost the opener 1-0 before winning by the same score in game two. With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 27-8 overall, while the RedHawks slipped to 27-10.
In game two, the Lady Eagles pushed across the contest's lone run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single to right field by Haley Williams.
Reinhardt collected five hits and stranded six base runners. Martin Methodist was guilty of two errors while the Lady Eagles again played error-free.
Reinhardt's Floyd, a right-hander, retired all 21 batters she faced as the guests failed to get a single runner on base. Over seven innings, Floyd recorded 16 groundouts, three strikeouts and just two balls left the infield, but none after the second inning.
Floyd, a 5-10 sophomore pitcher/first baseman from Newnan, Ga., is a first-year player for Reinhardt after transferring from NCAA Division III Emory University. Floyd's gem marked the second perfect game at Ken White Softball Field this season as teammate Monroe accomplished the same feat over six innings in her collegiate debut on Feb. 14.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday with an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader at Tennessee Wesleyan College. The first game is slated for a 2 p.m. start in Athens, Tenn.
