Dickinson State (N.D.) Advances in Loser's Bracket

DECATUR, Ala. - Dickinson State (N.D.) advanced in the loser's bracket with a 6-1 win over Simon Fraser (B.C.) at the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championship double elimination bracket.

 

The Blue Hawks' Jody Lantz batted 2-for-4 with three RBI while Nicole Marcoux went 3-for-4 with two RBI.  Sara Jane Webster pitched seven innings and allowed just one run while striking out four batters.

 

Dickinson State took the lead early when Amanda Mickey was hit by pitch and came around to score on Marcoux's single to center in the bottom of the first.  DSU added two runs in the third when Danielle Abrahamson doubled and scored on Marcoux's second double of the game.  One out later Marcoux crossed the home plate on Kelly Jahn's bunt single.  Meaghan Cumpstone put Simon Fraser on scoreboard with a home run to the left field in the top of the fourth.  Lantz gave the Blue Hawks a five-run lead with a three-run home run to right field in the bottom of the inning.

 

Dickinson State will advance in the loser's bracket and will face California Baptist on Tuesday, May 20 at 12:30 p.m.

 

Simon Fraser will end its season with 18-12 overall record.
