2008 NAIA Softball National Championship - Pool Play

DECATUR, Ala. - Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) went 2-0 on day one of the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championship pool play while Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) went 1-1.  Friends (Kan.) and College of Idaho both finished with 0-2 record.

 

Trevecca Nazarene opened Pool D play with a 2-1 win over College of Idaho and then defeated Olivet Nazarene, 5-2.  Brittiany Johnson pitched both games and recorded 11 strike outs against C of I and seven strike outs against ONU. Chelsea Bailey scored both TNU runs in the first game while Megan Suggs went 3-for-4 with two RBI against Olivet Nazarene. 

 

Raquel Hawkins drove in three runs to lead LCU to a 5-3 win over Friends.  Marissa Gonzalez struck out 10 batters in the win.  The Lady Chaps defeated College of Idaho, 6-1, in game-two.  Amanda Parsons went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Lisa Stratton drove in two runs.

 

After dropping the first game Olivet Nazarene bounced back to defeat Friends, 4-0.  Kellie Koverman pitched a complete game shutout with seven strike outs.  Caitlin Gidcumb drove in two runs while Marisa Baker and Erin Meyerhoff each recorded one RBI.

 

Pool play will resume on Saturday with game No. 24 between Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 10:30 a.m. (CST).
