Top seed California Baptist University Wrap Up Pool A with 14-1 victory over the Savannah College of Art and Design at 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship
The Lancers improved to 56-3 and won its pool with a perfect 4-0 record while the 15th-ranked Bees finished the season with a college-best mark of 41-8. CBU will now advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament that begins Monday (May 21).
CBU scored three times in the second inning. Chantal Millard, who went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI, highlighted the inning with her two-run homer to center field off SCAD starter Kristin Curette (14-4)
SCAD scored its lone run in the second. Brittany Kelley led off with a double to left-center field and moved to third on an illegal pitch by CBU hurler Candace Thomas (30-1), who allowed just two hits. Heather Ellis scored Kelley on a sacrifice fly.
The Lancers took control of the game with a seven-run third inning that gave CBU a 10-1 lead. Cassandrah Carreon and Erin Moore, who went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI, each contributed RBI singles while Shawna Rainwater, who went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, added a two-run single. CBU closed out the scoring with a four-run fourth to end the game early.
