Perkins Sets Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) Record With 21st Home Run

April 22, 2007

JACKSON, Tenn. - NAIA No. 7 Trevecca (45-6, 27-3) swept Union University (29-14, 19-8) at Fesmire Field on the Union campus. Trevecca took the first game 5-0 and completed the sweep with a 10-2 victory in game two. The wins secure a record three consecutive regular season TranSouth titles for the Trojans program. Trevecca has a 3-game lead with just two conference games remaining.

Jennifer Perkins set a new Trevecca home run record with her 21st home run of the year and Chelsea Bailey extended her single season stolen base record and broke the programs career stolen base record today.

Perkins breaks teammate Brittiany Johnson's record of 20 home runs last season. Perkins also ties the standing NAIA home run record, but Tabitha Foster of Peru State has 25 home runs this season and currently owns the record unofficially. Bailey now has 38 stolen bases on the year and 59 in her career. Both are school records.

In game one Trevecca put All-American Brittiany Johnson (29-4) on the mound and the junior delivered. The reigning TranSouth and Region Pitcher of the Year pitched a complete game shutout and allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out ten Bulldogs. Jennifer Perkins supplied the offense with a home run and Brittiany Johnson joined her with her own round tripper. Perkins home run gives her the TNU single season home run record at 21 and she now has a program best 34 career home runs.

Chelsea Bailey added to her single season stolen base record and set the career record with a stolen base in the game. Perkins was 1-for-3, Johnson 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Bailey was 2-for-4 with a two RBI and a run scored. Trevecca scored a run in the second and finished off the scoring with a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Trevecca had five runs on nine hits and no errors.

Stephanie Fisher was the story for Trevecca in the second game. The sophomore (13-2) pitched a complete game and allowed just six hits, two runs, and four walks while striking out four Bulldogs.

Amy Chatham (3-1) got her first loss of the season for the Bulldogs after giving up six runs (four earned) in six innings pitched. Sidney Crews was 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
