Trevecca's Perkins Sets Trojan Longball Record

Trevecca's Perkins Sets Trojan Longball Record

April 17, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca Nazarene University senior outfielder Jennifer Perkins tied the Trevecca single season home run record and enhanced her Trevecca career home runs record with a pair of home runs in Trevecca's double header sweep of Cumberland University today in Lebanon, Tenn.

Perkins is just two home run behind the NAIA record for home runs in a season. Peru State's Tabitha Foster hit her 22nd home run of the season earlier this year against York (Neb.).

Prior to the 2007 season, three players were for the NAIA single season home run record of 21; Mayret Perez, Mobile (Ala.), 2006; Caitlyn Senkbeil, Concordia (Ore.), 2006; Melissa Dowlen, Athens State (Ala.), 1994. Trevecca's Brittiany Johnson has 20 and is alone in fourth place all-time.

Perkins, a 5'7" native of Old Hickory, Tenn., has 20 home runs this season and ties teammate Brittiany Johnson's record of 20 home runs in a season. Johnson hit 20 last season to set the record.

Johnson, a junior and senior Ashley McCool held the Trevecca career home run record with 20 home runs a piece following the 2006 season. Perkins, who hit 13 home runs in her first three seasons at Trevecca, has caught and past her teammates for the career mark and now has 33 career home runs. Johnson has 28 career home runs with eight more this season and McCool has 23 career home runs with her three this season.

Perkins was a first team NAIA All-Region XI performer last year and was named to the first team All-TranSouth team a year ago as well.
