No. 11 Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) Sweeps No. 8 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 5-0, 5-3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - No. 11 Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) (39-6, 21-3) swept NAIA No. 8 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (29-8, 17-4) to regain sole possession of first place in the TranSouth Athletic Conference.

Trevecca won the first game 5-0 behind a 7-inning complete game shutout by the reigning NAIA Pitcher of the Week Brittiany Johnson. Trevecca won the second game 5-3 with a walk-off 3-run home run by Jennifer Perkins in the bottom of the seventh inning. Perkins is now second in the NAIA with 18 home runs on the season.

Trevecca scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on a 2-out solo home run by Ashley McCool. McCool's blast would prove to be the enough offense for the win.

Trevecca added two more in the third on a 2-run home run from Brittiany Johnson and completed the scoring with two runs in the fifth. Trevecca had five runs on 12 hits and no errors.

Martin Methodist had four hits and one error. Brittiany Johnson (22-4) got the complete game shutout and had nine strikeouts in the game. Dara May (12-4) took the loss for the RedHawks.

The RedHawks opened game two runs in the top of the first with a 2-run home run from Lori Lindsey.

Trevecca would answer with two runs in the third. The teams would remain tied until Martin Methodist pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead. Trevecca's Ashley McCool and Brittiany Johnson both reached in the seventh and scored when Jennifer Perkins hit a 1-out three-run home run.

It was Perkins 18th of the year. Perkins now has 29 career home runs and is the Trevecca career home run leader. Johnson (23-4) got the win with another complete game. Johnson added another four strikeouts to her totals. Trevecca had five runs on nine hits and committed three errors.

The RedHawks scored three runs on seven hits and had two errors. Liz Adams (14-3) took the loss for Martin Methodist.
