Peru State's Foster Breaks National Homerun Record

April 13, 2007

PERU, Neb. - Peru State (Neb.) senior Tabitha Foster (Plattsmouth, Nnb.) established a new NAIA single season homerun record by hitting her 22nd in the second game of the Bobcats doubleheader sweep of York College on Thursday in Peru. Foster blasted No. 20 and 21 during a 7-4 first game win setting the stage for the record-breaker.

The new mark came in the fifth inning when Foster delivered a two-run shot over the left field fence. The Bobcats rallied for a 17-16, 11 inning win in the nightcap to remain unbeaten (8-0) in the MCAC. The 'Cats are 31-13 overall.

"Tabitha had another huge day. She had been struggling a little as teams were not throwing to her lately and she was getting a bit frustrated," said Bobcats head coach Mark Mathews. "Today she was patient and it paid off with good pitches to hit. Her teammates helped the cause by getting on in front of her to force York to have to pitch to her. I am extremely happy for Tabitha as this will be something to remember for a lifetime. We are very proud of Tabitha and her accomplishment."

Foster is batting a hefty .447 for the year with a .950 slugging percentage and 69 RBI to go along with her homerun total. The record (21) was previously held by Mayret Perez (Mobile, AL- 2006), Caitlyn Sinkbeil (Concordia, OR-2006) and Melissa Dowlen (Athens State, GA-1994).
