CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Kathy Freese has been named the new head softball coach at Cedarville University (Ohio). She replaces Sue Carpenter, who resigned this summer to become an assistant at NCAA Division I Wright State after leading the Lady Jackets for seven seasons.

This is not an unfamiliar position for Freese, who has been at Cedarville since 1991 and has coached three different sports at the school including softball. She guided the Lady Jackets on the diamond from 1992 through 1995.

"Kathy is a veteran coach who is familiar with Cedarville and with our mission," stated athletic director Pete Reese. "Despite taking a break from coaching five years ago, she has remained on our faculty and has been involved with several of our teams. We are excited to have her back on the coaching staff and we are confident that she will have a positive influence on our young women."

Freese initially came to the institution to fulfill the role of head women's basketball coach. She completed a 10-year stint in the position in 2001 and has remained on the faculty as an associate professor of exercise and sport science. Her other coaching duty with the Jackets came in the fall of 1995 when she stepped in to lead the volleyball team to a 32-17 record.
