Trevecca Wins against Lee

May 23, 2006

DECATUR, Ala. - At the NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, the battle raged between two Tennessee universities, Lee University (Tenn.) (55-14) and Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) (47-14), with the Trojans of Trevecca rising victorious.

The Trojans scattered 3 runs across three innings of play. The first run came in the second inning as a result of pitcher Brittiany Johnson's solo homerun.  Trevecca's run in the bottom of the fifth came as a result of a successful squeeze play by Jennifer Perkins in effort to score Maria Trapani from third base.  The Trojans third run of the game came again through a sacrifice squeeze play by Ashley McCool to score Chelsea Bailey.

Lack of offensive power led to the Lady Flames loss in the matchup.  Lee scattered four hits among four players: Jill Webb, Kelly Golden, Ja'Andrea Hinton, and Emily Broyles respectively.

Brittiany Johnson led the Trojans to victory with nine strikeouts to improve her record to 35-10 on the season.  Lee's Ashley Johnson took the loss in the contest dropping her to 16-6 on the season.

Trevecca will be in action again Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. against California Baptist University (54-6).  The loss will end Lee's run at a national title.
