Point Loma Comes from Behind to Stay in Winner's Bracket

DECATUR, Ala. - At the 2006 NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) (45-15) scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to overcome a two-run deficit to defeat Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) (46-14) 3-2 to advance in the winner's bracket of day three of the tournament.
To start the three-run rally in the fifth inning, right fielder Amanda Addie reached first base with a base on balls and moved to second base on a bunt single by Mackenzie Gerke. Addie and Gerke each stole a base to place runner's in scoring position for Ruth Atkins who grounded out to score Addie. Left fielder Page Powell singled to right-center to score both Gerke and Atkins.
Allie Boeckelman led the Sea Lions going 3-for-4. Point Loma's K.C. Anderson improved her record to 25-13 on the season pitching seven complete innings.
Trevecca took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning with a double to shallow left center field by pinch-hitter Toni Waynick which scored Jennifer Perkins and Laura Redmon. Chelsea Bailey led the Trojans going 2-for-4 while Brittany Johnson suffered the loss to drop her season record to 34-10.
Point Loma advances to face Concordia (Calif.) (45-17) at 4:30 p.m. today in the winner's bracket while Trevecca will face Lee University (Tenn.) (55-13) at the same time in the loser's bracket.
