#1 Mobile def. Ottawa 10-2
Top seeded University of Mobile (Ala.) opened the national tournament with a 10-2 win against Ottawa University (Kan.).  The Rams (43-2) used a six-run second inning in route to the win.  Mobile blasted three home runs in the contest, including two from Mayret Perez and one by Jessica McIntyre.  Perez led the Rams with a 3-for-4 day with three RBI and two runs scored.  For Ottawa (24-19), Angie Thetford tallied three hits in three at bats, while Kelly Higbie's two RBI single in the bottom of the third inning accounted for the only two runs for the Lady Braves.  Ann Marie Odum (18-1) of Mobile tossed six innings for the complete game win. Ottawa's Corrin Ball tossed two innings of relief for starter Pam Johnson (10-8) who allowed nine runs and 11 hits over four innings pitched. 

#8 Point Loma Nazarene def. Evangel 10-0
Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.), seeded #8, began its pool play by defeating Evangel University (Mo.) 10-0.  Point Loma (42-14) scored two runs in the first, five in the third, and three more in the sixth to take the win.  Amanda Addie and Amy Nanson each tallied three hits in the game for Point Loma.  Katie McColeman, Allie Boeckelman, and Carrie Steward all recorded two RBI's each.  K.C. Robertson (23-12) earned the win with a six inning complete game shutout, allowing just three Evangel (35-11) hits.  Christinna Nelson (4-3) took the loss as she allowed two runs, one earned in one inning of work.  Brooke Ragan allowed eight runs, three earned in six inning of relief. 

#1 Mobile def. Houston Baptist 5-0
The University of Mobile (Ala.) improved to 2-0 for the first day of pool play with a 5-0 win over Houston Baptist University (Texas).  The Rams tallied one run in each the first, fourth, and fifth innings and then two runs in the sixth.  Mobile's five runs came on just five hits, three of which were home runs.  Maribel Riera hit two solo shots in the game, while Mayret Perez added one of her own.  For Perez, this home run gave her three for the day as she slapped two homers in Mobile's first win over Otawa.  Linden Jones (26-1) earned the win as she tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out nine batters.  Laura Hess (20-7) allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits.   In the loss, Hess struck out 11 Mobile hitters.

#8 Point Loma def. Ottawa 5-1
Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) completed day one of pool play with 2-0 record as the Sea Lions defeated Ottawa University (Kan.) 5-1.  Point Loma Nazarene scored first with two runs in the top of the third with the use of a double steal, a throwing error and a wild pitch.  Ottawa answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead in half at 2-1.  The score remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh when Point Loma added three insurance runs to pull away for the 5-1 win.  Amy Nanson of Point Loma Nazarene led the way with three doubles and two RBI on a 3-for-4 afternoon.  Amanda Addie also recorded three hits on the day for the Sea Lions.  K.C. Robertson (23-12) earned the win with four innings of relief ash she allowed just one hit and no runs while striking out five batters.  Katie McColeman started for the Sea Lions, but tossed only three innings, allowing one unearned run and four hits. Corrin Ball (12-7) went the distance in the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, and 11 hits.

Houston Baptist def. Evangel 1-0
Houston Baptist University (Texas) closed out day one of pool play by defeating Evangel University (Mo.) 1-0 to even its pool play record to 1-1.  Houston Baptist (39-12) tallied the only run of the ballgame in the top of the first on an RBI single by Nannah Garza to plate Krissie Conner.  Houston Baptist pounded out 10 hits in the game and left 12 runners on base.  Both pitchers went the distance with Cheri Wood (14-3) getting the win by shutting out Evangel over seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out five batters.  Kimberly Williams (16-2) took the hard luck loss, allowing just the one run on 10 hits.
