2022 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Players of the week are evaluated on their performance during the week prior to the announcement. Each player is selected out of a pool of conference and group award winners.

Week 6 (May 4, 2022)

Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Reymond Bueno, Wayland Baptist (Texas)

  Reymond Bueno posted a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, then aided the 4x400-meter relay team to a third-place showing in the Corky/Crofoot Shootout hosted by Texas Tech on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas. Bueno's 800 mark (1 minute, 51.03 seconds) accounted for his personal best as well as the fifth-fastest time in the NAIA. Bueno ran the lead leg for the Wayland Baptist relay team, which recorded the eighth-best time of the season among the NAIA. Both Bueno and the relay team turned in A standard times for the NAIA Championships.

 

Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Garrett Kocab, Carroll (Mont.)

 

  Kocab was named the meet's field athlete of the week. He set a new school record in the discus

Week 5 (April 27, 2022)

Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Phemelo Matlhabe, Life (Ga.)

  In his first weekend running this season, Matlhabe burst onto the scene, recording a pair of individual A-Standards--including the top time in the entire NAIA in the 200m Dash--and also helping a pair of blisteringly fast relay teams secure top-flight times.

 

Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Dylan Kucera, Midland (Neb.)

  Kucera, a senior from Fremont, Nebraska, had his best meet of the season with new personal bests in the shot put and discus. He won the shot put and was runner-up in the discus, reestablishing his school record in both events. His mark in the discus reached the NAIA 'A' Standard. He now has the top standard in three events this season. Nationally, he ranks 1st in the shot put, 2nd in the discus, and 2nd in the hammer throw

 


Week 4 (April 20, 2022)

Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Dylan Uhrich, British Columbia

This is a lifetime best for Uhrich in the 3000m steeple, moving him to #1 in the NAIA.

 

Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Rowan Hamilton, British Columbia

  A new personal best, 73.66 meters marks the top collegiate throw across all divisions of NCAA, JUCO, and NAIA by 2 meters. Hamilton also owns the number one ranked NAIA throw by 11 meters.

Week 3 (April 13, 2022)

Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Joseph Taylor, Southeastern (Fla.)

  Taylor broke four school records in five events. He posted the No. 1 time in the NAIA in the 100, the second best time in the 200 and the 4x100. His 7.18 Long Jump mark was also a school record and an NAIA 'B' Standard.

 

Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Conner Tordrsen, Dakota State (S.D.)

  Conner threw another NAIA A standard in the discus throw by throwing 49.27, which would be the 3rd furthest throw in DSU history if not for his school record earlier this year. He's ranked 2nd in the NAIA and 1st in the NSAA. Conner also was only 12 centimeters short of his DSU school record in the hammer throw, qualifying for nationals in another event by throwing 56.39. He's currently ranked 9th in the NAIA and 1st in the NSAA in the hammer throw.

Week 2 (April 6, 2022)

Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Payton Maudlin, Dordt (Iowa)

  Mauldin won two events in his outdoor season debut, the Dordt Invitational, last weekend. Mauldin took first place in the 800m with a time of 1:51.2, currently the fastest time posted in the GPAC and third-best in the NAIA. The sophomore then anchored the winning 4x400 relay, running a 47.8 split, an event the Defenders have the top time in the GPAC and ninth fastest in the NAIA.

 

Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Dylan Kucera, Midland (Neb.)

  Kucera, a senior from Fremont, Nebraska, won a pair of events (shot put and hammer throw) and placed 4th in another (discus) at the Central Nebraska Challenge this weekend. He has reached the NAIA 'A' Standard in the shot put and hammer, owning the 1st and 2nd best marks nationally in the events. He is 11th in the discus with an NAIA 'B' Standard.

Week 1 (March 30, 2022)

Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Daunte O'Banion, Indiana Tech

  Ran the first legs of the relays that rank third and first in the NAIA...the fastest 400m time in the NAIA and second-best in school history...15th-best time in the 200m

Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Taylor Bottomley, Central Methodist (Mo.)

  Finished first in discus and hammer throw and fourth in shot put at the Margaret Simmons Invitational.
