St. Thomas (Fla.) captures the 2023 NAIA Swim & Dive National Championship

St. Thomas (Fla.) Wins First Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship

COLUMBUS, Ga. – [Final Results] After a back-and-forth battle over the course of the meet, St. Thomas (Fla.) won the final two events to capture the 2024 Men’s NAIA Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center. It is the first NAIA Red Banner for the Bobcats, who accumulated 640.5 points.

St. Thomas posted five, top-three finishes on the day, including a trio of wins to move atop the team  leaderboard. The quartet of William Birkett, Robbie Garden, Alex Marrero, and Daniel Laureyssens teamed up to post a new NAIA record in the 400 free relay going 2:56.22. Steven Aimable went 1:46.56 to win the 200 butterfly, while Marrero and Birkett posted a one-two finish in the 100 free going 43.86 and 44.09, respectively.

Keiser (Fla.) finished as the NAIA Runner-Up after recording 624.5 points. The Seahawks notched four, top-three finishes on the day. Noel de Geus earned his third individual national title after he won the 200 breast with a time of 1:56.29. That time helped de Geus to his second national record of the meet.  The sophomore’s performance led him to being named the NAIA Swimmer of the Year, while his record breaking 100 breaststroke was the NAIA Swim of the Meet.

Jokubas Jankauskas touched the wall in 1:45.45 to win the 200 backstroke for Cumberlands (Ky.).  The Patriots recorded 400 points to finish third, which is tied for their highest finish at the NAIA Championships.

The finals opened with Lindsey Wilson’s (Ky.) Fabio Martin Rojo edging out Life’s (Ga.) Mate Dort by a razor-thin 0.07 second margin to win the 1650 free and capture the national title.

After leading Milligan (Tenn.) to a fourth-place finish with 364 points, head coach Spencer Scarth was named the 2024 NAIA Coach of the Year. 

SCAD Savannah (Ga.) rounded out the top five in the team standings with 331 points.

After winning a national title on both boards, Bethel’s (Ind.) Nicholas Bohm was named the NAIA Diver of the Year for the second straight year.
