Seahawks atop Team Standings as St. Thomas Breaks NAIA Record During Day 1 of NAIA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship

Columbus, Ga. – The 2024 NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships got underway Wednesday night as three events were contested at the Columbus Aquatic Center.

 

  • Keiser (Fla.) recorded 91 points and tallied a trio of All-American finishes to sit atop the team standings.  The Seahawks opened finals with Matheus Queiroz, Noel de Geus, Angel Margaritov, and Hanno Boeckmann teaming up to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:26.87.  Keiser’s Andrew Cestra notched a runner-up finish in the men’s three-meter diving, while they closed out the night with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay.
  • The quartet Nestor Montero, Robbie Garden, William Birkett, and Daniel Laureyssens teamed up to break the NAIA record in the 800 free relay, clocking a winning time of 6:30.18 for St. Thomas (Fla.).  That performance along with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay propelled the Bobcats into a tie for second place.
  • Cumberlands (Ky.) is tied for second place after tallying an All-American performance in all three events on the day.  The Patriots posted a third-place finish in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:41.23, while they finished fourth in the 200 medley relay.
  • Saint Ambrose (Iowa) and Milligan (Tenn.) round out the top-five with 65 and 62 points, respectively.
  • Nicholas Bohm of Bethel (Ind.) captured the first individual national title of the 2024 championships.  Bohm recorded a 286.50 to defend his three-meter diving championship.

The NAIA Championship will continue Thursday, March 7, with the second day of competition. Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. EST and finals will start at 5 p.m. EST.
