Pair of NAIA Records Set as Keiser Remains atop the Team Standings Midway through NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships
Columbus, Ga. – The second day of competition at the 2024 NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships saw a pair of NAIA records as the team standings gets closer Thursday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center.
- Keiser (Fla.) remains in first place of the team standings with 224 points after recording a pair of wins on the day. Alex Kusik touched the wall in 1:46.76 to break the NAIA record, which was set in 2011, and capture the 200 IM national title. Teammate Noel de Geus followed that up by clocking a 19.57 to win the 50 free. That time broke the NAIA record of 19.71 set back in 2014. Keiser closed out the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay.
- St. Thomas (Fla.) notched a pair of wins on the day to remain in second place with 222 points. The Bobcats edged out Keiser by 0.03 seconds to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:18.76. Daniel Laureyssens opened the finals by winning the 500 free with a time of 4:25.32.
- SCAD Savannah (Ga.) had four performances that ranked in the top eight of their respective events as the Bees are in third place with 143 points.
- Milligan (Tenn.) is in fourth place with 140 points. The Buffaloes performance was highlighted by a third-place finish in the 200 free relay, while Stephen Gilbert placed fourth in the 200 IM.
- Cumberlands (Ky.) rounds out the top five with 124 points.
The NAIA Championship will continue Friday, March 8, with the third day of competition. Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. EST and finals will start at 5 p.m. EST.
