Pair of New NAIA National Records Highlights Day 3 of the NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships

Columbus, Ga. – Day three of the NAIA Swimming & Diving Championship saw both a new individual and relay national record be set Friday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center Friday.  Keiser (Fla.) remains atop the team standings heading into the final day of competition as seven national titles were claimed.

  • The Seahawks captured four titles and had seven top-three finishes as they’ve accumulated 491 points.  Noel De Geus had a record-breaking performance to win the 100 breast.  De Geus touched the wall in 52.62, breaking the record of 53.06 that was set in 2009.  
  • Fynn Kunze opened the finals by winning the 400 IM with a time of 3:56.15.  Teammate Alberto Garcia earned a pair of individual national tiles as he went 46.88 to finish atop the podium in the 100 fly, while he won the 100 back with a time of 47.37.  Keiser closed out the night with a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay.
  • St. Thomas (Fla.) closed out the night with their 400 medley relay breaking a nine-year-old national record.  Alex Marrero, Inigo Marina, Miguel Angel Arroyo Garcia, and Daniel Laureyssens teamed up to finish in 3:12.72, clipping the national record en route to finishing atop the podium.
  • The Bobcats head into the final day in second place with 386 points.  St. Thomas had five top-three finishes, including Laureyssens edging out SCAD’s Joel Thatcher by 0.01 seconds to win the 200 free. 
  • Bethel’s (Ind.) Nick Bohm captured his second individual national title in these championships this time on the one-meter board.  Bohm recorded a score of 273.55 over the six dives to earn the top spot. 
  • SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) sits in third place with 302 points. Joel Thatcher notched a runner-up finish in the 200 free, while the Bees placed fourth in the 400 medley relay.
  • Cumberlands (Ky.) and Milligan (Tenn.) round out the top five with 244 and 229 points, respectively.

The NAIA Championships will continue Saturday, March 4, with the final day of competition. Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. EST and finals will start at 5 p.m. EST.
