Three Wins Helps Seahawks Remain Atop Team Standings After Day 2 of NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving National Championships

Columbus, Ga. – Keiser (Fla.) notched three wins, including a podium sweep in the 200 IM to remain atop the team standings midway through the 2023 NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships.  In total four champions were crowned on day two at the Columbus Aquatic Center.

  • Keiser has widened its lead as the Seahawks have accumulated 239 points through two days of competition.  Fynn Kunze lead a trio of Seahawks to a podium sweep in the 200 IM as he clocked a time of 1:47.64.  Alex Kusik (1:48.14) and Marti Ranea Vila (1:48.33) completed the podium sweep.
  • Ivan Amillo-Escobedo and Noel De Geus combined for a one-two finish in the 50 free, while the duo was joined by Alberto Garcia and Max Miller to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:20.00.  The Seahawks also notched a second and third-place finish in the 500 free.
  • St. Thomas (Fla.) remains in second place with 196 points.  The Bobcats touched the wall in 1:20.29 to finish runner-up in the 200 free relay, while St. Thomas had five swimmers competing in the A finals.
  • SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) sits in third place with 173 points. Joel Thatcher successfully defended his 500 free national title as he finished atop the podium with a time of 4:22.92.  It marks the fourth time that Thatcher has won the 500 free championship. 
  • Milligan (Tenn.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) round out the top five with 135 and 115 points, respectively.

The NAIA Championships will continue Friday, March 3, with the third day of competition. Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. EST and finals will start at 5 p.m. EST.
