Keiser (Fla.) Captures Fifth Consecutive NAIA Swimming & Diving Championship

Columbus, Ga. – Keiser (Fla.) captured three titles on the day en route to winning their fifth straight NAIA national title Saturday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center.  In addition to the team title, the Seahawks notch a pair of top honors, while a trio of national records were set on the final day of competition.

The  Seahawks totaled 719 points over the four-day championship to move into sole possession of third place for most team titles in NAIA history.  Alberto Garcia earned NAIA Swimmer of the Year honors after he won all three of his individual races.  Garcia clocked a 43.52 to win the 100 free tonight after taking top honors in both the 100 back and 100 fly yesterday.  Teammate Noel De Geus garnered the NAIA Swim of the Meet for his 100 breast national record swim.

Keiser closed out the meet with Ivan Amillo-Esobedo, Garcia, Alex Kusik, and Max Miller teaming up to win the 400 free relay.  The quartet broke the NAIA record with a time of 2:56.23 breaking the previous record of 2:56.71 set in 2014.  Aaron Wilmes opened finals by taking top honors in the 1650 free with a time of 15:20.53.

Cumberlands (Ky.) Jokubas Jankauskas broke the first NAIA record of the day as he went 1:44.98 to win the 200 back.  That time broke the national record of 1:45.61 set in 2012.  It was also the Patriots first national title of the meet.

St. Thomas (Fla.) Inigo Marina set the new NAIA record in the 200 breast as he clocked a time of 1:56.96.  That broke an eight-year-old record and gave the Bobcats one of their two first-place finish of the day.  Miguel Angel Arroyo Garcia captured the other title of the night after he touched the wall in 1:48.12 to win the 200 butterfly. 

The Bobcats also took runner-up honors at the championships after they scored 569 points.  St. Thomas had a pair of runner-up finishes on the night as well.  St. Thomas Head Coach Caesar Asadi wad named the 2023 NAIA Coach of the Year.

SCAD (Ga.) scored 450 points to finish third overall.  The Bees had a runner-up and a pair of third-place finishes on the night.

Cumberlands and Milligan rounded out the top five with 363 and 337 points, respectively.

Nick Bohm of Bethel (Ind.) was named the NAIA Diver of the Year after he won both the one-meter and three-meter competitions.
