Seahawks Land Atop Team Standings After Day 1 of NAIA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship

Columbus, Ga. – The 2022 NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships got underway Wednesday night with a lone event, the 800 free relay, at the Columbus Aquatic Center. 

  • Keiser (Fla.) clocked a 6:34.99 to win the 800 free relay and score 40 points to be a top the team standings.  Alex Kusik, Pol Roch, Marti Ranea Vila, and Alberto Garcia all split faster than a 1:40.00 to capture the first title of the 2022 championships.
  • Brandon Vives, Kristof Monori, Nicholas Kredich, and Joel Thatcher led SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) to a runner-up finish as they finished with a time of 6:35.25.  Thatcher recorded the fastest split of the day as he went 1:35.62 to anchor the Bees relay.
  • Milligan (Tenn.) pulled away to finish third touching the wall with a time of 6:43.09.  Andre Bazzana, Ethan MCCosh, Wiktor Perkowski, and Stephen Gilbert aided the Buffs to 32 points.
  • St. Thomas (Fla.) edged out Cumberlands (Ky.) for the fourth spot by 0.15 seconds. The Bobcats went 6:50.53, while the Patriots finished with a time of 6:50.68.
  • Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), St. Ambrose (Iowa), and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) rounded out the podium finishers in the relay.

The NAIA Championship will continue Thursday, March 3, with the second day of competition. Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. EST and finals will start at 5 p.m. EST.
