Day 2 - NAIA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Defending NAIA champion Keiser (Fla.) took top honors in four of the five events on the day to move atop the leaderboard after two days of competition at the NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. The Seahawks have totaled 244 points to hold a 19-point lead over SCAD (Ga.).

  • The Seahawks opened and closed the night by winning the 200 free relay (1:19.77) and the 400 medley relay (3:16.29). Keiser also recorded a one-two finish in the 200 IM as Lukas Macek edged out teammate Marti Ranea by 0.29 seconds to take the national title with a time of 1:48.75.
  • Marcel Nagy of Keiser successfully defended his 50 free national title. Nagy began the day by tying the NAIA record swimming of 19.71, set back in 2014, in the prelims.  
  • SCAD (Ga.) is in second after posting one win and a pair runner-up finishes on the night. Joel Thatcher touched the wall in 4:22.37 to become the 500 free national champion. SCAD also finished runner-up in both the 200 free relay (1:21.50) and the 400 medley relay (3:20.54).
  • Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is sitting in third place of the team standings with 124 points. The Blue Raiders got a runner-up finish from Calvin Coetzee in the 500 free as he swam 4:22.79 to go along with a third place finish in the 200 free relay (1:24.02).
  • Midlands (Neb.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) have recorded 118 and 92 points, respectfully, to round out the top five.

The NAIA Championship will continue Friday, March 6, with the third day of competition.  Prelims are slated to begin at 10 a.m. EST, while finals will start at 6 p.m. EST.  Live video of the championship can be found here, while live results can be found here.
