Oklahoma Wesleyan Wins Overtime Thriller over Baker (Kan.)

WICHITA, Kan. - [Championship Bracket | Final Site Schedule | Watch Live | Live Stats] In a thrilling match-up between Baker (Kan.) and second seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan on Day Two of the 2024 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship, OKWU emerged victorious with a 2-1 win in double overtime. The game was a closely contested battle between two talented teams, with both sides showcasing supreme class on the pitch. 

The first half ended with a scoreless deadlock as both teams struggled to break through the opposing defense. It wasn't until the 85th minute that Baker managed to take the lead, with Reilly Marlow-Jones scoring a goal assisted by Evans Osei Amankwah. However, the Eagles quickly responded with a goal from Nikita Pakhomov in the 87th minute, assisted by Uros Rosic and Joao Gomes, to level the score at 1-1 and force the game into overtime.

The intensity continued into the second overtime period, with both teams fighting hard for the win. In the end, it was OKWU who emerged victorious, with Pol Mur scoring the game-winning goal in the 101st minute, assisted by Nemanja Vukovic.

The match was not without its share of drama, as both teams received yellow cards during the game. Kirill Pakhomov of Oklahoma Wesleyan was booked in the 53rd minute and Luis Vergara received a yellow card in the 82nd minute.

The Eagles have now won 21 staight matches and will await the winner of No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan and No. 10 William Carey (Miss.) on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Baker ends their year with a 13-8-1 record.

The 66th Annual NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship features a total of 16 teams and is played from December 2nd - 9th at Scheels Stryker Sports Complex and is hosted by Visit Wichita.
