2021 NAIA Men's Lacrosse Invitational - Semifinals

SAVANNAH, Ga. – [Schedule] [Bracket] The top two seeds in the NAIA prevail to advance to the championship game of the 2021 NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Invitational Friday at Memorial Stadium.  Top seed Reinhardt (Ga.) fended off a late surge to defeat No. 4 Keiser (Fla.) 9-8, while No. 2 Indiana Tech got the golden goal in double overtime to defeat No. 6 Cumberlands (Ky.) in the other semifinals.

This sets the stage for the championship game between Reinhardt and Indiana Tech Saturday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium.

Game Notes/Highlights

No. 1 Reinhardt (Ga.) def. No. 4 Keiser (Fla.) 9-8

  • Reinhardt opened the game with a pair of goals from Conner Mills and Gavin Banks to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead.  Cole Stassi put Keiser on the board at the 6:41 mark, however, Dillan Bousquet dished out his second assist of the game to put the Eagles in front 3-1 after the first quarter.
  • The Seahawks cut the deficit to one just over a minute into the second quarter.  Reinhardt netted three of the next four goals to take a 6-3 lead into halftime.
  • Keiser opened the third quarter with Anthony Senior finding Joshua Shields cutting towards the cage for a goal.  Three minutes later, Reinhardt netted an unassisted goal to extend their lead to 7-4.  Both defenses continued to pick up their intensity as the game moved into the fourth quarter.
  • The two teams traded goals twice to open the fourth quarter. Keiser added goals at the 6:04 mark before netting a man-up goal at the 5:29 mark to make it 9-8 in favor of Reinhardt.  The Seahawks had a chance at the equalizer, however, Matt Webb made one of his nine saves to preserve the 9-8 final.
  • Gavin Banks and Conner Mills each netted a hat trick in the game, while Zane Anderson dished out four assists in the win.  JR Sess went 12-19 on faceoffs and scooped four ground balls, while Matt Potvin notched three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • Keiser got multi-goal games from Anthony Senior and Hunter East, while Senior also added two assists.  Alex Pineau scooped a game-high five ground balls as Cole George made 12 saves in the cage.

No. 2 Indiana Tech def. No. 6 Cumberlands (Ky.) 10-9 (2OT)

  • Cumberlands came out with two straight goals within the first two minutes of play.  Simeon Bodley got Indiana Tech on the board, however, Tony Arseneault and Tanner Popovich each added a goal to extend the Patriots lead to 4-1 after the first quarter.
  • Indiana Tech clamped down on defense as they held Cumberlands scoreless over the next two periods.  Offensively, Andrew Ryan netted a pair of goals as Samuel Bodley netted the equalizer at the 4:24 mark to even the score at 4-4.  Evan Schuster made six of his 16 saves in the period to aid Indiana Tech's comeback.
  • The Warriors took the lead in the third quarter as Khanan Bodley netted an unassisted goal midway through. Indiana Tech added a pair of goals to extend their lead to 7-4 heading into the fourth quarter.
  •  Indiana Tech add a goal to open the fourth quarter making it 8-4. From that point Cumberlands stormed back getting four straight goals, including the game-tying goal from Anthony Gray to even the score at 8-8 with 2:43 remaining.  The Patriots won the ensuing faceoff and Tanner Popovich netted a goal putting Cumberlands in front 9-8 with 2:30 remaining.  Under a minute remaining, Emmett Coleman fired a shot into the upper cage tying the game at 9-9 and sending it to overtime.
  • After a scoreless first overtime, Khanan Bodley connected with Andrew Ryan for the game-winning goal with 3:09 remaining in the second overtime.
  • Andrew Ryan led the Warriors with a hat trick, while Khanan Bodley added three points.  Andrew Neller went 14-22 on faceoffs with six ground balls.
  • For Cumberlands, Thomas Fogarty netted a hattrick, while Tanner Popovich and Anthony Gray each added a pair of goals.  Michael Toohey notched 13 saves in the game as Jake Morgan tallied four caused turnovers and seven ground balls
