Harris Strikes Out a Dozen as Georgia Gwinnett Claims Run-Rule Win Over British Columbia, 11-1

LEWISTON, Idaho – Ben Harris struck out 12 for Georgia Gwinnett, Friday night, and the Grizzlies earned the first run-rule win of the 2025 Avista NAIA World Series, walking off to beat British Columbia, 11-1, at Harris Field in Lewiston.

Jackson Cobb’s second double of the night plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth, and Cobb came home to end the game on a ground ball through the middle by Paul Winland, Jr. Cobb ended the game 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in three.

Harris was dominant on the mound for the Grizzlies, going 7.1 innings, erasing 14-consecutive batters between the third and eighth innings. He improved to 12-0, and on the other side, Will Anderson fell to 7-2 for British Columbia. At the plate, Jonny McGill paced UBC with the Thunderbirds’ only multi-hit game.

Georgia Gwinnett (54-5) advances to play Tennessee Wesleyan Monday night at 3 p.m. PT, and British Columbia (39-18) enters an elimination contest Saturday, against Loyola (La.) at 6:30 p.m. Both games, and the entire Series, will air on the NAIA Network and Urban Edge Network at www.naia.org/watch.

Alex Harrell who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs, one of those runs in the first inning, when the Grizzlies were aggressive on the bases, taking a 4-0 lead. Georgia Gwinnett got on the board when Scott Seeker lifted a sacrifice fly into center, and Cobb laced his first double inside the third-base bag, a ball that skipped down the line in left and scored Harrell.

Two more runs came home in the inning, on singles by Winland, Jr., and Matthew Lee, and for the next four innings, a pitchers’ duel ensued.

Georgia Gwinnett ended its side of the scoreless streak in the sixth, when Jon Ponder ripped a single in to center field, scoring Tyler Martin, and Harrell made the sixth another four-run inning, knocking a 3-run home run over the batter’s eye in center.

UBC scored a late run, when Mitchell Middlemiss grounded out to second base, an RBI that brought home McGill.
