2024 NAIA Baseball Players of the Week - No. 2 (March 5)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -  Drew Barragan of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) has been named the NAIA Baseball Player of the Week and Cesar Avila of Cumberlands (Ky.) has been named the NAIA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The duo was selected based on their performances from February 26 - March 3 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/Continental Athletic Conference (Independents)/unaffiliated group nominees. 

Players of the Week are announced weekly throughout the regular-season on Tuesdays on naia.org, Instagram and Twitter.

NAIA Baseball Player of the Week

Drew Barragan, Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) - SR - Shortstop

  • Barragan had 10 hits in 15 at bats for ERAU this weekend against La Sierra (Calif.).
  • He had 7 doubles, one triple and three stolen bases for a .667 batting average, .714 on base percentage, and a slugging percentage of 1.267. 
  • He had 8 extra base hits, 19 total bases, and a 1.000 fielding percentager as the starting shortstop. 

 


NAIA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Cesar Avila, Cumberlands (Ky.) - JR - Pitcher

  •  Avila threw the first Cumberlands no-hitter since 2005.
  •  He recorded 13 strikeouts on 108 total pitches in Game Three against Fisher (Mass.).
  •  Across seven innings, he only issued four walks.
