2021 NAIA Baseball All-Americans Announced

Baseball - Faulkner University
Antonio Frias of Faulkner (Ala.)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2021 Baseball All-America teams as selected by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches’ Association All-America Committee. Gary Mattis Jr. of Tennessee Wesleyan and Antonio Frias of Faulkner (Ala.) headline the honorees as the National Player of the Year and National Pitcher of the Year.

The first and second teams are also recognized as ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Sporting Goods. The ABCA began recognizing All-Americans in 1949 and named the first ABCA NAIA All-America team in 1969.

Mattis ended the season with an impressive .408 batting average and slugged just shy of .900 on the year. The junior hit 21 doubles (No. 14 in NAIA) and 25 home runs (No. 5 in NAIA) on the year. The shortstop was a first-team all-conference selection in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and was named the AAC Player of the Year. The Florida native was ranked No. 3 in the nation in runs scored per game with 1.491. He ended the year ranked in the top 10 in 10 statistical categories.

Frias ended his year as not only Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, but as one of the most efficient pitchers at the Avista NAIA World Series. Frias went 13-0 on the year and held batters to a .159 average and held a 2.22 ERA. In terms of rankings, there was no one better in terms of hits per nine innings, where he was ranked No. 1 in the nation, allowing just shy of five hits per nine (4.92).
