Day 2 – 2022 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship
GULF SHORES, Ala. – [RESULTS | SCHEDULE] The second day of the 2022 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship opened with some heavy rain but all events for the day were completed.
Shot put - Arriana Benjamin of Marian (Ind.), 14.22 (46-8)
Javelin – Hailey Kjaer, British Columbia, 47.65 (156-4)
Triple jump - Jai-Lyn Norwood, Marian (Ind.), 12.88 (42-3.25)
5k race walk – Olivia Lundman, British Columbia, 23:41.20
10k - Becca Richtman, Montana Tech, 35:13.93
Heptathlon – Valerie Schmidt, Corban (Ore.), 5,158
- Arriana Benjamin of Marian (Ind.) led the way with 14.22 (46-8) on her final attempt which was the first individual title for the Knights.
- Hailey Kjaer of British Columbia won the javelin title with a mark of 47.65 (156-4) on her third throw. Kjaer has won the 5th javelin title for UBC and is the second UBC athlete to win a title as Liz Gleadle won all four years of her college career.
- Olivia Lundman of British Columbia claimed the 5k race walk title with a time of 23:41.20. Lundman finished a total of 1:1.24 ahead of the runner-up.
- Jai-Lyn Norwood of Marian (Ind.) captured the title in the triple jump with a mark of 12.88 (42-3.25) to earn Marian its second total individual title.
- Becca Richtman of Montana Tech finished first in the 10k with a time of 35:13.93. The runner-up, Jessica Price of Shawnee State (Ohio), finished just 14.12 seconds behind Richtman.
- Valerie Schmidt of Corban (Ore.) overtook Lauren Tamayo of Hastings (Neb.) on day two of competition in the heptathlon. Schmidt finished with a total of 5,158 points after taking second in the javelin and 800m and followed with a fifth-place finish in the long jump on day two.
- British Columbia holds a hefty lead in the team standings with 60 points. Marian (Ind.) follows with 21.33.
The championship will continue on Friday, May 27 with the half marathon starting at 6 a.m. CT.
