MOBILE, Ala. – [Bracket | Schedule] Round one of the 2024 NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championship concluded on Tuesday evening at the Mobile Tennis Center, with all eight of the higher seeds advancing to the second round on Wednesday.

Six of the eight matches resulted in 4-0 sweeps across first-round action, while two matches went down to the wire with 4-3 finals.

 

 

Game Notes & Highlights

  • (9) Loyola (La.) cruised to a 4-0 victory for the afternoon’s first scores, eliminating (24) Ottawa (Kan.) in the process. The Wolf Pack will meet (8) SCAD Savannah (Ga.) on Wednesday following just their third win in women’s tennis national tournament history.
  • (11) LSU Alexandria (La.) shortly followed with a 4-0 sweep of its own, shutting-out host-school (22) Mobile (Ala.) for the second time during the 2024 campaign. LSUA defeated Mobile 7-0 to begin the season.
  • The 12th-seeded Union (Ky.) Bulldogs sent (21) McPherson (Kan.) home with a 4-0 defeat, relying on wins from the 1, 3, and 5 seeds in singles play after earning the doubles point. Union will face (5) Middle Georgia State in the second round.
  • (13) William Carey (Miss.) continued the shutout trend across the first four completed matches, blanking (20) Oakland City (Ind.) 4-0 and advancing to a second-round match with (4) Xavier (La.) on Wednesday.
  • (10) Westcliff (Calif.) also recorded a 4-0 shutout, defeating (23) Morningside (Iowa) to advance in the tournament. The win is just Westcliff’s second in national tournament history as the Warriors are scheduled to meet (7) Southeastern (Fla.) in round two.
  • The final shutout of the first round on Tuesday came from (15) Indiana Wesleyan as the Wildcats defeated (18) William Woods (Mo.) 4-0 to advance. IWU will face the 2nd-seeded Seahawks of Keiser on Wednesday afternoon in a second-round matchup.
  • (16) St. Thomas (Fla.) hung on for a 4-3 victory over (17) Northwestern Ohio, collecting the doubles point and wins from No. 1, 2, and 6 singles matches. St. Thomas has a tough task ahead as the Bobcats meet the defending national champions (1) Georgia Gwinnett (Ga.) in the second round on Wednesday.
  • (14) Dillard (La.) wrapped up first-round action on Tuesday evening with a 4-3 victory over (19) Holy Cross (Ind.), making history with the first national tournament win in program history. The Bleu Devils will face (3) Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in round two with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.  
  • All second-round matches on Wednesday will take place at the Mobile Tennis Center, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
