Day Two Recap of NAIA Women's Bowling National Championships

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE] - The 2024 NAIA Women's Bowling National Championship, held at 5 Star Lanes, continued on Friday as rounds two through six were bowled. The 4th Annual NAIA Women's Bowling National Championship runs from March 21st to 23rd and is hosted by Lawrence Tech and the Detroit Sports Commission. A total of 12 teams began the day in the Battle For The Red Banner, but only three remain.

Round Two Highlights

  • Top ranked SCAD Savannah (Ga.) won 4-1 over No. 8 Concordia (Mich.).
  • Second seeded Pikeville (Ky.) fell behind 2-0 to Midway (Ky.) before the Bears won four straight sets to take the match.
  • No. 6 Milligan (Tenn.) upset third seeded St. Francis (Ill.) by a 4.5 to 2.5 count as both teams had 194 points in the third frame. 
  • Fourth seeded William Penn (Iowa) rode a 4-2 score to a victory over No. 5 St. Xavier (Ill.).

Round Three Highlights

  • Fifth seeded St. Xavier (Ill.) won the final three games to win 4-2 over No. 11 Indiana Tech.
  • No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.) fended off No. 8 Concordia (Mich.) for the 4-2 victory, buoyed by winning the second through fourth games. 
  • Match 11 went the distance as No. 9 Ottawa (Kan.) won 4-3 over the 10th seeded Eagles of Midway (Ky.) who were in the championship for the first time. 
  • No. 3 St. Francis (Ill.) won the first three games to cruise to a 4-1 victory over No. 12 William Woods (Mo.) who qualified for the NAIA Championship in the programs second year. 

Round Four Highlights

  • The top seeded Bees of SCAD claimed a 4-2 victory over William Penn (Iowa) to move forward in the winner's bracket. 
  • Second seeded Pikeville (Ky.) lost the first two games, but the Bears won the next four in a row to beat No. 6 Milligan (Tenn.). 
  • It went the distance, but SXU was able to outlast Spring Arbor (Mich.); The Cougar won games 1-3 and then the seventh. 
  • No. 3 St. Francis (Ill.) won their second straight elimination game, beating No. 9 Ottawa (Kan.) in the seventh game.

Round Five Highlights

  • In the winner's bracket match, No. 1 SCAD Savannah (Ga.) survied and advanced against No. 2 Pikeville (Ky.) by a 4-3 score. 
  • Fifth seeded Saint Xavier (Ill.) went the distance to beat #6 Millian (Tenn.) 4-3.
  • Best of seven was not enough for third seeded St. Francis (Ill.) and fourth seeded William Penn (Iowa). The Fighting Saints won 4.5 to 3.5 by the Statesmen.

Round Six Highlights

  • No. 3 St. Francis (Ill.) wins 4-2 over No. 5 Saint Xavier (Ill.) as the Fighting Saints end the match winning three in a row. They will face No. 2 Pikeville (Ky.) with the winner bowling in the National Championship round.
