MARION, Ind. - [RESULTS | DAY 2 HEAT SHEET] Day one of the 2023 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship saw three individual champions crowned. 

• The decathlon opened with 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters.
  • NEW RECORD: Nathaniel Paris of British Columbia and Nigel Steenwinkel of Keiser (Fla.) finished faster than the previous record set in 2016 with 10.55 and 10.87, respectively. As a result, Paris now holds the decathlon 100m record. 
  • Paris also leads the decathlon standings after one day of competition with a 1st in 100m, 400m and long jump, 2nd in the high jump and 6th in shot put. 
  • Cole Wilson of Keiser (Fla.) follows 287 points behind Paris after day one. Wilson looks to place higher than his 3rd place finish in 2022 as he currently holds second place with a 1st in high jump, 3rd in long jump and shot put, 4th in 100m and 14th in 400m. 
• Rowan Hamilton of British Columbia, who holds the record for the hammer throw, won the event for the second year in a row with a mark of 71.97m. Dylan Kucera of Midland (Neb.) followed Hamilton with a mark of 61.56m. This year, his mark was the highest Kucera has recorded at the championship and the highest he has placed at the championship. 
• David Friedberg of Reinhardt (Ga.) won the javelin for the second year in a row with a mark of 65.93m.
• Davis Bogges of The Master's (Calif.) won the 10,000m race for the first time with a time of 30:15.16 after finishing second in 2022. 
• Team Scores
  • British Columbia leads the team scores after day one with 15 points after placing 1st in the hammer, 4th in the javelin.
  • Point Park (Pa.) (3rd and 5th in men's javelin), Reinhardt (Ga.) (1st in javelin) and The Master's (Calif.) (1st in men's 10k) follow with 10 points.
