Day 2 – 2022 NAIA Men’s Track & Field Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala. – [RESULTS | SCHEDULE] The second day of the 2022 NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship opened with some heavy rain but all events for the day were completed.

 

Long jump – Thomas Jackson, Bethel (Ind.), 7.65

Discus – Justin Villars, Hastings (Neb.), 51.98

High jump – Isaac Brown, Grace (Ind.), 2.14

5K race walk – Jordan Crawford, Missouri Baptist, 21:49.78

10K – Robert Swoboda, Corban (Ore.), 30:19.80

Decathlon – Lee Walburn, Carroll (Mont.), 7225

 

  • Thomas Jackson of Bethel (Ind.) finished with a top mark of 7.65 (25-1.25) in the long jump. This is the second overall individual title for Bethel and the first in the long jump. The top 13 jumpers all finished within 0.59m back from the leader.
  • Isaac Brown of Grace (Ind.) won the high jump title with a mark of 2.14 (7-0.25). This is the first high jump and overall individual title for Grace. The runner-up, Michael Millslagle of Graceland (Iowa) hit the same mark but the tie was broken with Millslagle having one more scratch than Brown.
  • Jordan Crawford of Missouri Baptist won the 5k race walk title with a time of 21:49.78. This is the first race walk title for MBU since 2014. The runner-up, Dean Freitag of Rio Grande finished just under 10 seconds behind Crawford.
  • Robert Swoboda, Corban (Ore.) finished in first place with a time of 30:19.80. The runner-up, Johnathan Bowen of St. Mary (Kan.), finished just 3.19 seconds after Swoboda.
  • Justin Villars or Hastings (Neb.) finished with the highest mark at discus with 51.98 on his final throw. This is the first discus title for the Broncos.
  • Lee Walburn of Carroll (Mont.) maintained his lead from day one to repeat as the decathlon winner. Walburn finished with a total of 7,225 points 284 points ahead of the runner-up.
  • British Columbia leads in the team standings with 22 total points. Hastings (Neb.) follows closely behind with a total of 16 points.

The championship will continue on Friday, May 27 with the half marathon starting at 6 a.m. CT.
